Drug Detox

Drug detox is the most important part of becoming free from addiction, and because of this drug detox should be handled with great care. Drug detox is a medical procedure. Drug detox should be handled in a medical facility under great supervision. The reason for this is because drug detox can be fatal. What happens to the body when one becomes addicted is a chemical change, and to take this chemical away from the body all at once without proper care from the drug detox can turn from a positive process to a fatal one.

There are many different facilities all across the globe that are setup to handle drug detox. Most drug treatment centers share the same method. Some have been doing it longer than others and are possibly more efficient at the drug detox procedure.

No matter what drug the user was addicted to- whether it is alcohol, cocaine, heroin, marijuana, ecstasy- they need to undergo drug detox. No one can expect a drug addict's mind from clearing up if the system is not also clean. While the drug is still inside the system of the addict his/her thinking is still clouded. They will still physically crave the drug. This physical craving attacks the mind and sends the drug addict down a twisted path of emotions.

Being that drug detox has such an impact on all aspects of the human being there should be someone there to make sure each area of the drug detox is going as smoothly as possible.

The first area is the medical aspect of drug detox. The facility should have a medical doctor on staff in order to ensure the patients utmost physical safety. Most medical doctors will prescribe some sort of pharmaceutical in order to ease the body through the chemical process of drug detox.

The second aspect of drug detox is the nutritional. It is extremely important that the drug addict's body is at its highest possible performance level during this procedure. The in-house nutritionist will setup up a meal plan to assist the body through this procedure. If the body of the patient is cared for correctly it takes quite a lot of discomfort away from the drug detox.

A third aspect of drug detox is the mental portion. Most facilities have a psychiatrist on staff to make sure that the mind of the patient is functioning correctly. This way the patient can be calmed when they begin to have an adverse mental reaction to the drug detox. The psychiatrist is there to help the addict feel safer mentally.

The fourth and final part of drug detox is the emotional portion. Due to the fact that most drug addicts have used drugs for suppressing their emotions when the drugs are taken out of their system they come back. At most facilities you will find a highly trained staff of drug counselors. These counselors will be there to help the drug addict through the emotional roller coaster of drug detox.

In order to begin the drug treatment process, drug detox must be performed. To receive information on drug detox facilities call the National Treatment Referral Hotline. If you or someone you love is addicted to drugs call this number, 800.375.4577, and let the healing begin.
